It's a city with a rich history and is also known as the "Rome of Portugal". It's very vibrant, where many young people are studying in its universities. Braga has the oldest cathedral of Portugal, whose construction was commissioned in the twelfth century by the parents of Portugal's first king, D. Henrique and Teresa, whose tombs are inside the church. To this day, Braga remains one of the major religious centers of the nation, and the ceremonies held during Easter Week and on Saint John's Day, are among the biggest attractions of the religious and tourism calendars of the city. If you're in Braga, don't miss visiting the Santuario do Bom Jesus do Monte (Good Jesus of the Mount), a real masterpiece. It's one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Portugal. The church is located at the end of a monumental 116 meter stairway with multiple chapels depicting the Via Crucis, fountains and sculptures.
