What to expect

Lanzarote's volcanic scenery comes into its own at Timanfaya National Park. This corner of the island is all rusty-red peaks and craters straight from a sci-fi movie set. And it's all even more dramatic at sunset. So on this evening trip, you're in for a treat. Before heading to Timanfaya, we'll make a short stop at La Geria winery. Local guide, Maria, says, “this bodega offers a magnificent backdrop of volcanic vineyards and sweeping mountain views as you sip on local varieties in a wine sampling.”

You'll drive the park's famous Lunar Route around the scorched peaks, known as the Mountains of Fire. Then, enjoy an exclusive stop at Montaña a Rajada lookout, before arriving at El Diablo, a circular restaurant built on top of the Islote de Hilario volcano. Designed by Lanzarote's acclaimed architect, Cesar Manrique, its floor-to-ceiling windows command jaw-dropping panoramas over the national park.

After capturing the candy floss clouds and craters on camera, tuck into dinner sizzled up on the volcano-heated barbecue, enjoying the views and live Canarian music.

Our guide was very friendly and informative and had a good rapport with the driver. The staff at Timanfanya were also friendly and made the whole experience good fun. There was plenty of food at the barbeque - salad and potato starter then chicken, pork rib and sausage with chargrilled vegetable and a nice dessert. It was my husband's birthday so he was delighted that they made it special by singing 'happy birthday' and providing a 'birthday cake' and a bottle of cava for our table.

The coach driver mr Mendez was amazing the route to the top was narrow and bendy. I think it would be a hard drive in a car let alone a coach. Our guide Rob was very informitive and had good kniwledge and kept us enertained

Most of the tour was excellent, however the tour guide was very ignorant and rude, the wine tasting and vineyard was disappointing where again the tour guide was rude towards us. There was no explanation of the wine for example what grapes were used or how it was made. It was a case of walking into the vineyard drinking a shot glass of wine and getting back on the coach.

Not a fault of the staff, but collecting and dropping of people to 10 other hotels was terrible. Just the thing I wanted to avoid, hence I paid much more money then to other providers to avoid it. I am not going to book with TUI anymore, in spite of the fact that I was doing 1-3 trips every holiday for years.

The tour was fantastic - dinner a little rushed and although there was a lot to eat and drink we anticipated the good being cooked fresh on the volcanic coals
