What to expect

For a real taste of Caribbean culture, look no further than this full day bus tour around the Dominican Republic. You'll visit remote villages while learning all about local produce and history.

The adventure kicks off as your guide regales you with the history of the island while we journey through cattle grazing lands and rice fields. You'll drive by a typical rural school, on route to tour some of the island's coffee, cocoa and sugar cane plantations.

Head on to Higuey, and you'll see the famous Altagracia Basilica – a pilgrimage site because of its miraculous image of Our Lady – before a wander around the bustling market. Check out the views of the Cordillera Oriental mountains before we round off with a beach stop and lunch in a local restaurant.

Although we were the only English on board we had a great day. Mama Gina was great at keep everyone informed in all languages, even the jokes. The history talks were on point and all very informative. Drinks flowed all day and even some dancing on the bus. Was the perfect trip to take in some local culture and scenery. The beach at the end was perfect. An anticipated 5 to 8 hour day turned in to 10 hours and we all left laughing and happy although a little tired.

Original trip was cancelled with less than 24 hours notice. Only other one other available date before we had to go home. Commentary was mainly in French, with French music played all afternoon. Not at all impressed with TUI

Going to the coconut plantation was just a trip yo the shop. If we were shown round and seen how the products were made it would have been better. Likewise the rice plantation we just drove through.

Our guide (Mamma Gina) was really informative and funny. The places we visited were varied and really interesting. Our children ( 19,16,11 ) were not bored at all so there was something for all ages. Would definitely recommend

What a fantastic day! It was so wonderful getting to experience a bit of the real Dominican Republic. Our guide was absolutely wonderful and very passionate about her country and it was wonderful to see. All the staff were lovely and friendly- the bus was such fun and all the stops were interesting. We would highly recommend.

The tour was fab, however we was taken to lots of little stops along the way which felt like a money making experience for the guide. At the market it wasn’t as it was sold, we was walked down the one road and back up to the van, didn’t have time to spend there, was shown shops and how the prices differ to resort however not given an opportunity to explore the shops. All in all good experience of DR just needs a lil tweaking on the tour

You'll discover the major sights as well as the secrets of the colonial past by coach, train and foot on this sightseeing tour.Kick off at Independence Park before heading into the warren of cobbled streets that is the old town – known as the Zona Colonial – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll see sites dating back to the 15th century and visit the Gothic Cathedral of Santa Maria and the Alcazar de Colon, which belonged to Christopher Columbus's family. You'll find out more about the complex history of the island with a 4D cinema experience recounting the storming of the city on New Year's Day in 1586 by English privateers led by Francis Drake.Next, hop aboard a mini-train for a tour of the colonial zone before stopping for lunch. So, trying traditional cocoa products in a Dominican farm is a real treat, even if you don't have a sweet tooth.'Kick off with some mud-splattered, high-octane fun as you ride cross-country to a cenote cave for a swim in the Domitai Cave Park. These sinkholes with clear, fresh water are perfect for a cooling dip. As it's a private venue, there are fewer crowds and vendors than at other cenotes. You'll also get to savour some local specialities such as empanadas and pineapple wine.
